Joyce Mary Kearns

Joyce Mary Kearns (nee Garbarino) of New City, NY, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2024, at the age of 84. Born in Greenwich Village, NY, to Julia and William Garbarino, Joyce spent her early years in Brooklyn before graduating from St. John's University. In 1972, she and her beloved husband Brian moved to New City, where they raised their family.

Joyce had a fulfilling career as a chemist at Kraft Foods, where her dedication and expertise made a lasting impact. Notably, she blazed a trail as one of the first female scientists for Kraft Foods, breaking barriers and paving the way for future generations. She was a woman of faith, finding comfort in her strong Catholic beliefs throughout her life. Joyce's greatest joy came from spending time with her family, especially her granddaughters, whom she adored.

Married for an incredible 60 years, Joyce and Brian's bond was a testament to love, commitment, and unwavering devotion. Their partnership was a source of strength and joy for all who knew them.

She is survived by her husband Brian, her brother Paul (Christine), her son Scott (Gail), and her four granddaughters Krista, Corrin, Mary, and Julia. In the embrace of heaven, Joyce is greeted by her beloved daughter Audra and her brother John.

Joyce will be remembered for her kindness, her warmth, and her love for her family. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to St. Jude's Children’s Research Hospital, an organization close to Joyce's heart. Her legacy of love and cherished memories will be forever treasured by those who knew her.

A visitation for Joyce will be held Friday, February 23, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Service Inc., 321 S Main St, New City, New York 10956. A funeral mass will occur Saturday, February 24, 2024 at 10:00 AM at St Francis of Assisi Church, 128 Parrott Rd, West Nyack, New York 10994. A burial will occur Saturday, February 24, 2024 at 11:15 AM at Gethsemane Cemetery, 310 Rockland Lake Rd, Congers, New York, 10920.
