Julie Feeney, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend died unexpectedly at her home in Pearl River on Thursday, January 1st.
Julie or “Jules” as she was known to family and friends, was born in Chicago and raised in Oak Park, IL. She attended Ascension Grammar School and graduated Trinity High School in 1967. While young and working at St. Vincent’s orphanage, Julie decided her passion was to become a nurse. She was preparing a move to California to start her career, but a chance encounter derailed those plans when she met James Feeney. Jim quickly swept her off her feet and the two were married on August 1, 1970. They moved to Rockland County NY where they put down their roots. While Jim ran his own law practice, Julie raised their 5 children. She spent much of her time driving her kids back and forth between CYO and Little League practices while never missing a game and cultivating lifelong relationships in the process. They were a perfect match for each other, Jule’s always saying God broke the mold when he made her husband, and Jimbo doing everything he ever could to give her a wonderful life.
In 2008 Jim and Julie retired to Woodloch Springs, PA where they spent numerous vacations with their children. It was during those vacations in the 1970’s where they developed a lifelong friendship with Paul and Una Fitzpatrick. One of their most cherished Woodloch memories being the celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary surrounded by their entire family. Julie was well known around Woodloch for her humor and enjoyed playing cards with her friends. Julie was blessed to have special bonds with multiple friends of her childhood, taking several girls trips where they laughed about new times and reminisced about old ones. In 2023 she moved to Lakewood Ranch, Fl. In Spring of 2025 Julie returned home to Rockland County, settling in Pearl River where she reconnected with old friends and quickly made new ones. She kept herself busy playing cards, dice games, Mahjong and attending social events in her community. But her hobbies never prevented her from attending any of her grandchildren’s sporting or school events or an extended phone call with one of her beloved sisters.
Predeceased by her husband James, daughter Clare, her parents John Francis and Mary Jane Kent, her in-laws James and Gertrude Feeney, and her sister-in-law Kathleen Mistretta. Julie is survived by her 5 children, Christopher (Jennifer O’Neill Feeney), Jennifer Lovell (Broward), Mary Beth Drain (Terrence), Kathleen and Patrick (Erin Reynolds Feeney), her brothers Jeffrey, Lawrence, Maurice Kent and sisters Mary Elizabeth Kent, Therese Kent and Virginia Kluesner. She will forever be missed by immediate and extended families as well as countless friends. Julie’s legacy will be her 11 grandchildren; Sereena, James, Julie, Grace, Jack, Caroline, Hugh, Declan, Clare, Skylar and Joseph whom she would always pass a long her patented line of “I love you to the moon and back”.
Visiting hours will be at Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY on Tuesday January 6th from 4pm-8pm. Her life will be celebrated at a funeral mass on Wednesday, January 7th at St. Aedan’s Church in Pearl River, NY at 10am, followed by a burial at St. Anthony Cemetery in Nanuet, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Julie’s memory to Tunnel to Towers
