Karl Georg Gutenberger of Stony Point, NY passed away peacefully on July 8, 2018 at the age of 65 from lung disease with his family by his side. Karl was born in Windesheim, Germany on November 16, 1952. He came from Germany with his parents at the age of 4 and settled in the Bronx. He graduated from Our Savior Lutheran High School in the Bronx. In 1971 he started serving 6 years in the U.S. Army and National Guard. He then went on to Lehman College and the NY Institute of Technology where he learned to be an electrical mechanic and worked at various jobs such as Merrill Lynch, Macy’s, and J.P. Morgan Chase.
He met his wife Mariela and married on November 26, 1983 and lived in Queens, NY then moved to New City, NY in Rockland County in 1996 where they had their 3 beautiful daughters and lastly moved to the Stony Point, NY community 5 years ago. Karl had a career as a union electrician for 35 years and as a union operating building engineer for the past 10 years. He is survived by his wife Mariela Gutenberger of 35 years, his daughters Annalise, Louisa, and Katarina. He also leaves behind his mother, Margot Gutenberger, brother Eric Gutenberger and sister-in-law Patricia Gutenberger with nieces Christina, Kaitlyn, Kerri and nephew Karl; sister-in-law Mannie Rodriguez, cousins Carmen Nonnenmacher and Tina Braja, and their families. Karl is predeceased by his father Karl-Heinz Gutenberger.
His passion and work ethic made for a loyal and dedicated employee. He had a genuine ability to fix anything and his attention to detail was impeccable no matter the task. His joy for his girls and family was immense. He would make people laugh even at the most inappropriate times and had a lasting impression on everyone. His goal was to make everyone happy. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to either the American Lung Association or to Atonement Lutheran Church in Stony Point, NY. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 14, 2018 from 2-4pm & 7-9pm at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home, 321 S. Main St., New City, NY with a service at 8:30pm at funeral home. Cremation on Monday will be private.
