Laura Mary Dertinger

Laura was born and embraced by a big and loving family that was made bigger by her wonderful ARC Rockland Family.

She is survived by her sister Doris Doherty (Lenny) of Congers, Jeanne Urban (Tom) of West Springfield, MA; Rosie Stryker (Jimmy) of Seneca, SC; Alice Gass of Highland Falls, NY; Paul Dertinger (Terri) of Pearl River, NY; Kathryn Duffy (Eddie) of Myrtle Beach, SC; Nancy Baron (Gregg) of Tampa, FL. Laura leaves 14 nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews. Laura was predeceased by her parents - John and Harriet (Migge) Dertinger and her three brothers – Jack, Ray and Thomas and her nephew Christopher Stryker.

Laura was born in Suffern, NY to John and Harriet (Migge) Dertinger on March 23, 1969. She was a lifetime member of ARC Rockland and a resident at the Pearl River South Highland Ave Group Home. She graduated from Tappan Zee High School in their special needs program.

Everyone knew Laura was special when she entered their lives, her essence and energy filled all who knew her with love, warmth, acceptance and mischievous fun. She loved butterflies and kittens. Her favorite pastimes included singing, dancing, coloring, watching WWF, playing Bingo with Mom & Ann & Olga & Mary (Mom’s pals) and listening to 80s music. She had a full schedule of fun with her ARC family– bowling, walking the mall, shopping, swimming at RCC, and advocating for animals and human rights.

We do not have the words to express how appreciative we are for all of the great support, care and love she was surrounded with by her extended family and friends. Simply the best, Thank You to each and everyone of you…too many to name but we know you and hold you in our hearts.

Visitation will be held at Michael J Higgins Funeral Service at 321 South Main Street, New City, NY 10956 on Wednesday, June 11, 2025 from 3-7pm. A funeral mass will be held Thursday, June 12, 2025 at St.

Anthony Catholic Church at 36 W Nyack Rd, Nanuet, NY 10954, followed by a burial in Gary Onderdonk

Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Viola, NY 10901.
