

Louis De Vita of Valley Cottage passed away on April 22, 2016. He was born in New York City on June 27, 1926 to Genaro and Pasqualina (Conferto) De Vita. Louis was a Korean Combat Veteran and the recipient of 4 battle stars. He graduated in 1945 from Naples University with a degree in Industrial Engineering. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Empire State College in 1977. Louis was a part-time instructor at Englewood Cliffs College of Business & Economics from 1971 to 1974. He was an appointed delegate on the Student Alumni Federation, Board of Governors of Empire State College, and elected President in 1984 to 1986. Louis was very active in the community he acted as the President of Congers 1 Senior Citizen, treasurer with Retired Public Employees Association Orange/ Rockland chapter, and an instructor for the AARP Driver Safety course 2005-2013. He was the Commander of VFW Post 126 from 2004-2010, as well as the President of Korean Veterans Eagle Chapter- Rockland County 2013.
Louis is survived by his loving wife, Lucy of 59 years, and his two sons, Gerry and his wife Kathryn, and Gary and his wife Kathleen, as well as his grandchildren; Megan (Bryan) Dias, Katelyn, Erin, Gary Jr. (Heidi), Dr. Kerri De Vita (Omar Haque), he is also survived by his great-grandchildren Viviana and Owen. Lou was predeceased by his brother Frank De Vita in 2010.
The family will receive friends at Higgins Funeral Home in New City on Sunday, April 24 from 2-4 and 7-9pm. A funeral mass will take place at St. Paul’s Church in Congers on Monday, April 25 at 11:15am, followed by interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne.
