

Lucille LaGrutta, 89, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, August 23 surrounded by her loving family. Born on January 22, 1936 in New York, NY, she was the daughter of Filomenia and Daniel Fanelli.
Lucille’s life was marked by a deep love for her family, faith and friendships that she made over the years. Lucille was a faithful member of St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church in New City where she found joy in singing with the choir, accompanying her husband, John, on sick calls, and volunteering at Nyack Hospital. A longtime employee of Sears, Lucille was a familiar face behind the jewelry counter. Lucille also found enjoyment in her many pastimes including shopping, participating in the Seniors Group, Red Hat society and socializing with her friends.
Above all else, Lucille treasured her role as a mother and grandmother. She was always present for her family by babysitting, attending sporting events, graduations,weddings or other celebrations, Lucille took great pride in being a host in her beloved “country” home where she invited everyone by hosting parties and celebrating holidays. Whether cooking for a small gathering or large celebration, Lucille’s cooking and baking skills were unmatched. Her recipes will live on, but that unique touch will be greatly missed by all.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her sister, Rose Ann Fanelli (Michael); her children, Lorraine LaGrutta, Kathy and Don Moresi; David and Lisa LaGrutta,Maria and Peter DeLeo; daughter in law Lisa LaGrutta; her beloved grandchildren, Lauren, Diana, Kristen, Kelly, Christopher, Joseph, Allyson; Ileana, Peter, Brianna and Alexis. She was also blessed with her great grandchildren, Kaylee, Grayson, Claire and Harrison. She was predeceased by her husband John G. LaGrutta and son John A. LaGrutta.
Lucille’s memory will live on in the hearts of her extended family, friends, and all who were touched by her kindness and warmth.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 26 at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home, 321 S Main Street, New City NY 10956. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 27 at St. Augustine’s Church in New City. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery, Congers, NY.
Memorial donations in Lucille’s name can be made to St. Jude’s Children's Research hospital.
