The myth, the Scottish legend herself, or, as some of us lucky people got to call her, mum, grandma, aunt, sister, friend, neighbor, and co-worker. She first made her grand appearance into this world on February 4th,1941 in the majestic capital and historic city of Edinburgh, Scotland. She was born to the late and deeply beloved Joan Ross and William Christie Ross. She was one of ten siblings. She had four brothers and three sisters who preceded her: Agnes, Billy, Frank, Charlotte, Joan, Roderick, and George. She is survived by two brothers, Ian and John. She loved her siblings very much and often told many stories of her childhood climbing Arthur’s Seat or picking wild berries with them. She grew up with her two best friends Margaret Burgess and Morag Miller. She, and Morag came to America and brought a little bit of Scotland with them. Her big sister Agnes or as we would fondly call her Nessie and her loving husband John sponsored Margaret’s visa. She lived in New York City with roommate Mary O’Brien. She loved traveling and on one of her grand adventures she met bus driver Jimmy Comer. Jimmy was so taken back by her natural beauty that he told everyone on the bus that he was going to marry her someday and he did. Their love grew so much that they welcomed their first beautiful child together Michele, followed by her sweet James shortly after that, and then lastly their “little meatball” and youngest, Kristian. Margaret and Jimmy not only loved their children very much but they loved their nieces and nephews Dorinda. Lisa, John, and Rodney, and spent many holidays with them and her beloved big sister Agnes and kind hearted brother-in-law, John.
Margaret and Jimmy decided to move from New York City to Rockland County, NY in the early 80’s. She worked at Rockland Psychiatric Center and retired in 2005 to take care of her love Jimmy. In 2009 he preceded her and she never forgot him or the love that they had. Margaret’s favorite title in life was grandma. She loved her two granddaughters Brittany and Christie very much. She said they were her two hearts and the best gift she ever got. She loved watching them grow up into the strong and independent women they are today. She was also very proud of her favorite son-in-law, Anthony. Each year she looked forward to giving him his yearly planner book. It was one of her favorite Christmas gifts to give. Margaret loved meeting and getting to know her future grandson-in-law, Riley. She said he has a true heart of gold and was excited to welcome him into the family. Margaret went back to Scotland many times to visit her family and loved ones. She would always talk about the “Ross” clan, and how she loved each one of them deeply and wanted nothing but the best for all of them.
Margaret was an avid animal lover, especially dogs. She had many pictures of her pets Jock, Tartan, Champ and Daisy Mae. She lit up with glee to show people pictures of her fur babies. She belonged to the Red Hats, Clarkstown Senior Club, and the Clarkstown Senior Show. She loved her neighbors and friends very much.
She passed away on Friday, May 8th in Commack, New York. She is survived by her two daughters, Michele and Kristian, and her son James and son-in-law, Anthony, her granddaughters Brittany and Christie, and future grandson-in-law, Riley.
