Marion Ellis Leavitt started on a new journey on May 2, 2014. Her husband Burton Leavitt left on November 13, 2013, and she wanted to travel with him. She travels light. She left behind her belongings, her body with Parkinson’s which would not cooperate any more, and her mind which was confused about which journey she was on. Her spirit is free and strong, and now swimming with the flow of those who have gone before: her husband, parents and siblings, many friends and family members of her generation, and her oldest daughter Lesley Lynn. The rest of us she has left on the shore, happy to know she is free, but already missing her terribly. Those left behind include: her children Debbie Rivera, Norman Leavitt, Warren Adams-Leavitt, Cheryl Flugaur-Leavitt, and Neila Leavitt, and their families; in-laws, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her many friends; the loving and supportive communities of Lake Lucille, Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Rockland, American Association of University Women; and the myriad of birds and animals which she loved and for which she cared. Donations in her memory would be welcomed at any of the above organizations.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2014, 10:30 a.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Rockland, 130 Conklin Road, Pomona, followed by lunch. A Lake Lucille community dinner/open house will follow from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Lake Lucille. Entrée provided, bring a side dish to share if you are able.
