

Mary Ann Gaffney (formerly, Sister Alma Joseph O.P.) died at Bethel Assisted Living, Croton-on-Hudson, NY on Saturday , August 30, 2014 at the age of 85. She was the youngest of five children born to Harry and Alma Gaffney in New York City on May 29, 1929. She entered the convent of the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill, NY in 1947. She taught at SS Peter and Paul High School in Easton from 1958 to 1967. She left the convent after 22 years and began teaching in New York. She continued teaching in New York until her retirement from Clarkstown High School in Rockland County, New York. Mary Ann loved teaching, the theatre, and especially, her family and friends. She was always a giver. She was predeceased by her brothers, Buddy and Alan and sisters, Rosemary Curtis and Joan Beninato. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Betty Gaffney from Yorktown Heights, NY and many nieces, nephews and cousins. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 11am at Sacred Heart Chapel on the grounds of the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill, NY.
