Mary P. Arena

Mary Arena of New City, NY passed peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday July 25th, 2019. She was 89 years old. Born to Angelina and Paul Penna in Brooklyn on June 21st, 1930, Mom would be so excited and playfully remind us “it’s the first day of summer!’ She is survived by her husband of 69 years Joseph M. Arena, Sr.; daughters Angela Gubitosa and husband Thomas of Stony Point, Mary Lia and husband Salvatore of Westtown; sons Louis Arena and wife Lisa of Deerpark and family, Joseph Arena Jr. and Vera Versa and family of Stony Point; and grandsons Alexander Lia of Littleneck, Queens and Brandon Gubitosa of Allentown, PA. Mary is predeceased by granddaughter Juliette Lia.

After graduating from Bay Ridge High School, Mary worked as a bank clerk. She met and fell in love with Joe at Confraternity dances. The two married October 21st, 1950. Mary’s passions in life were family and church. Mary and Joseph are proud to be one of the Founding Families of St. Francis of Assisi parish in West Nyack, NY and have remained active in the church. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Francis Tuesday, July 30th at 10:00am. Burial immediately following at St. Anthony Cemetery, 36 W. Nyack Rd., Nanuet, NY.
