Mary O'Connor

Mary V. O'Connor, 87, of New City, passed away Thursday, December 22, 2011, surrounded by her loving family. Born March 25, 1924 in New York City, she graduated from St. Nicolas of Tolentine High School located in the Fordham section of the Bronx. Mary married John J. O'Connor from County Galway, Ireland in 1951 and moved to New City in 1965. John passed away in January 1995. Mary was an active member of St. Augustine Church for over 40 years participating in the Altar Society as well as being an Eucharist Minister. She was a teacher's aid at Link Elementary and moved on as an LPN at Nyack Hospital.

She is survived by her four children, Tom and wife Nancy of Bardonia, Maureen and husband Tom Lowe of Monroe, NY, Eileen and husband Robert Valentino of Leesburg, VA, and John and wife Marina of Apex, NC, as well as 10 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandsons.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 27th from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Higgins Funeral Home in New City, 321 So. Main St. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 28th at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine Church, New City, with burial to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Mary's memory to a camp for children with juvenile diabaetes: Camp NEJEDA, PO Box 156, Stillwater, NJ 07875.
