Michael P. Campbell, died peacefully on Monday, June 10, 2013, at the Joseph Raso Hospice Residence in Northern New City. Michael was born in County Sligo, Ireland on March 9, 1938 to Bridie and Garda James Campbell. He came to the United States in 1956 and went on to serve his country proudly in the US Navy for 4 years and was active during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Michael became a NY City Transit police officer and simultaneously earned his Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from Mercy College. He worked for 20 years for the Police Department and did another 20 in Corporate security. He loved doing the NY Times crossword puzzles, listening to Traditional Irish music and was a devoted JEOPARDY fan.
Michael is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Bridget (McLoughlin); son, James Campbell and wife Amanda of West Nyack, NY; daughter, Mary Duffy and husband Kevin of New City, NY; his 3 loving grandsons, Owen and Michael Campbell and Leo Duffy; sisters, Pearl Campbell, Mary Campbell-Lee and brother Noel Campbell. In addition to them, he will be deeply missed by in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends who loved him dearly. Michael is predeceased by his parents, and his siblings, Thomas, James and Breda.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 13th from 2-4 and 7-9 at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home, New City, NY. Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, June 14 at 11 am at St. Augustine's Church, 140 Maple Ave., New City. Burial immediately following at St. Anthony's Cemetery, Nanuet, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations in Michael's memory can be made to United Hospice of Rockland or Nyack Hospital Emergency Room.
