Michael Richard Sloboda, 47, passed away on Thursday, August 15, 2019 after a long, courageous battle with ALS. Mike was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1971 to Richard and Eileen Sloboda. Born in the the Bronx and raised in Stony Point, Mike was an avid sports enthusiast and athlete, excelling in everything he played. Mike was consumed with sports...rooting for the New York Rangers, Dallas Cowboys and the New York Yankees. You could ask Mike anything about sports and he'd have the answer. Mike also LOVED all music (except country).
If you ever had the pleasure of meeting “Mikey Red” you'd never forget him. He was an ‘87 graduate of St. Gregory Barbarigo in Garnerville, NY and a ‘91 graduate of St. Joesph Regional High School in Montvale, NJ. He was an extremely proud member of Local Union #3 IBEW until his illness forced him into retirement in 2017.
The countless number of children who graced the pre-school brought a smile to Mike’s face each day. The kids called him Uncle Mike and loved when he'd visit because he always had lollipops for them (even the ones that got in to trouble).
Mike is survived by his father Richard, mother Eileen, sister Denise (Todd Forsberg), brothers Daniel (Marcy Sloboda) and Matthew. Mike is also survived by his nieces and nephews that just adored him...Madison, Luke, Jake, Emily and Annelyse.
Mike was a huge fan of the underdog and despite his diagnosis, he truly believed that he would beat ALS. Mike was the nicest guy in the world...a quiet guy who never bothered anyone so it's hard to believe that this is the hand he was dealt. Nevertheless, he dealt with it with grace & dignity...describing himself as a warrior. Mike loved his co-op in White Plains and was determined to return there when healthy. Although it wasn’t to be we know you are loving your co-op in the sky.
We love you so much Mike. We are at peace knowing you’re no longer suffering.
You are free. You are finally free!!!
