Neal Robert Hemmer

Neal R. Hemmer passed away on Thursday, May 28. He was 69. Born in New York City on August 30, 1945 to Dorothy (Horne) Hemmer and Frederick Hemmer. Neal graduated from Pace College in 1969. He started his career with Investors Planning Corporation, and later moved to S&H and Paramount Realty Group as Risk Manager. In 1996 he moved to Sound Shore Medical Center as Coordinator of Financial Services retiring from Sound Shore in 2007.

He was a longtime resident of Congers having moved to the area in 1976. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church in West Nyack, a member of Pope John XXIII Knights of Columbus in Congers, and an active volunteer for Soup Angels in Nyack.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Bernadette (Fleming), his three daughters Tara Hemmer, Tracy Lynch, and Carolyn Hurley, and his brother Fred Hemmer. He is predeceased by his parents Dorothy Hemmer and Frederick Hemmer, and brother Tom, who passed away on the same day 19 years ago. He had six grandsons and two granddaughters that he loved and adored.

Neal loved traveling with Bernadette, especially cruising. He enjoyed rooting for his beloved NY Giants and watching horse racing. He loved spending time with family and friends and we cherish our fond memories.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, May 31 from 2pm to 4pm and from 7pm to 9pm at the Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home, 321 S. Main Street, New City, NY 10956. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 1 at 11am at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 128 Parrot Road, West Nyack, NY 10994 with interment to follow at St. Anthony’s Cemetery.
