Nicola Rutigliano, age 89 of New City, New York passed away on May 13, 2020. Nicola Rutigliano was born in Bitetto, Bari, Italy on August 31, 1930 to the late Vincenzo and Filomena Rutigliano. He married Francesca Rizzi on January 28, 1956. Nicola served in the Italian Military, and was a musician in the military band! Painting was his profession, and he had his own business in Bitetto, Bari. He also worked as a painter for Stella D’oro Biscuit Company in the Bronx, New York for 30 years.
Nicola enjoyed gardening, playing his trumpet, making his yearly wine, building wood projects, and most of all enjoyed dinners and gatherings with his family and friends. He also enjoyed watching soccer games especially the Italian League. Nicola loved living life to the fullest! He enjoyed helping his family and neighbors! He was a devoted and faithful Catholic. Nicola Rutigliano moved from Italy to the United States on January 22, 1966 and lived in the Belmont section of the Bronx, later moving to New City on July 4, 1975. He was a resident of New City for 45 years.
Nicola is survived by his soulmate, wife and best friend Francesca Rutigliano, 64 years married and having dated for 10 years prior to marriage. They knew each other for 74 years! He is also survived by his sons Vincenzo “Vinnie” Rutigliano, Gerardo “Gerry” (Frances) Rutigliano, daughter Anna Antonia Rutigliano, and daughter-in-law, Beth Rutigliano, grandchildren Isabella Nicole Rutigliano, and Sean Hartley Rutigliano and great-grandson, Kaleb James Rutigliano.
Funeral services were private and took place on May 22, 2020 at Ferncliff Cemetery, Hartsdale. Donations can be made in Nicola Rutigliano’s name to United Hospice of Rockland, 11 Stokum Lane, New City, NY 10956.
