Nora Woulfe, 96, of New City, NY, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2026. She was born on December 10, 1929 in Athea, Co. Limerick, Ireland. The youngest child of the late Patrick and Mary Anne Woulfe, she was predeceased by her brothers William and Patrick and by her sisters Kathleen Mulvihill and Margaret White. She is survived by her adoring nieces and nephews: Tricia McShane and Siobhan Galligan of New York, and Lucy Geoghegan, Patrick White, Thomas White, Mary Woulfe, Patrick Woulfe, John Woulfe, William Woulfe and Catherine Cleary of Limerick, Ireland. Nora was also a great-aunt to 16.
Nora sailed to New York in 1954 with her brother Pat and lived in Brooklyn and the Bronx before moving to New City in 1980. She worked her entire 40-year career for Blue Cross Blue Shield where she won the perfect attendance award every year—except her first. She visited Rockaway Beach for the first time that summer and fell asleep in the warm sun. Coming from Limerick where it rains 15-20 days a month, she had never heard of Coppertone. She was sunburned and blistered and could barely walk or bend her knees to go home!
Nora worshipped at St. John’s Church in the Bronx and St. Augustine’s Church in New City. She enjoyed Word Search puzzles, sewing and knitting, keeping up with local and world news events, maintaining a manicured lawn and shrubbery and cheering for the New York Yankees. She was a cherished sister, a loving and generous aunt and godmother, a pleasant co-worker, a hardworking employee, a faithful friend and a good neighbor.
A funeral mass will be held on Monday, May 18, 2026 at 10 AM at St. Augustine’s Church. Interment will immediately follow at St. Anthony’s Cemetery in Nanuet, NY. A luncheon celebrating Nora’s amazingly long and happy life will be held in New City. She will be greatly missed by all and her memory will live on in our hearts.
