

It is with heavy hearts we wish to say "Slán" (Irish for goodbye) to Patrick (Paddy) Leo McNamara of New City, New York. Patrick was born on September 14, 1936 and passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2024 at Montefiore Nyack Hospital at 87 years of age, with his loving family by his side. Patrick was born in the town of Cavan, County Cavan, Ireland, to the late Patrick (Pappy) and Margaret (Rahill) McNamara, and emigrated to the United States in June 1958.
Patrick is survived by his dear and loving wife of 62 years, Bridget M. (Richardson) McNamara, and his three loving children; daughter Joan (McNamara) Fahey and husband Joseph, son Patrick, Jr. and wife Karen, and son Michael (Sandy). In addition, he is survived by granddaughters, Krystal McNamara (Daniel) and Margaret Fahey and great grandchildren Nevaeh, Liam, and Penelope.
Patrick is also survived by his loving sister Anne (McNamara) Pol and husband Richard, brother-in-law William Wozniak and wife Ellen, sisters-in-law Mary Moran, Eileen Murphy (Nicholas) in New York and sisters and brothers-in laws in Ireland. In addition, he has many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews throughout the United States, Ireland and Great Britain. He is predeceased by his beloved sister Phyllis (McNamara) Wozniak and brother-in-law John Moran and by his niece Catherine DuPlessis.
Patrick served honorably in the United States Army from 1960 to 1962. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 1682, New City, NY and sent care packages to the troops for years. Recently, he had a memorable trip to Washington, DC on the Hudson Valley Honor Flight with the assistance of his son Patrick, which was so generously sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary, Post 1682, New City, NY.
He was past President of the Rockland Irish-American Cultural Center, Blauvelt, NY, and loved Irish music, singing, dancing and laughs with his friends. He was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians Division 5, and Town of Clarkstown, West Nyack #2 Seniors Club, where he made more friends and enjoyed many trips. He was a parishioner of St. Augustine's R.C. Church, New City since 1976 and a member of the Holy Name Society. His faith and love of God kept him going. He loved swimming, football, fishing, and singing in the choir in St. Patrick's Cathedral in Cavan and was a member of the Boy Scouts in Ireland. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle, and loved spending time with immediate and extended family.
Patrick's profession was a printer in Ireland and the U.S. Later, he became a bus operator for the TWU Local 100, Manhattan and Bronx Surface Transit Operating Authority (MABSTOA), New York City, and worked mostly in the Bronx until his retirement in 2000.
A visitation for Patrick will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 P.M. at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Service, 321 South Main Street, New City, NY 10956. A funeral Mass will occur Saturday, August 24, 2024, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Augustine's Church, 118 South Main Street, New City, NY 10956. Burial will follow at 11:15 A.M. at St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery, 36 West Nyack Road, Nanuet, NY 10954.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests any donations be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation or a charity of your choice.
