

Bill, as he was known to family and friends, passed away at his home in New City at the age of 95 on August 28, 2023. He was raised in Brooklyn, New York. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and was part of the occupational forces in Japan. When he came home, he attended St. John's University and graduated with a degree in accounting. He then pursued a law degree and graduated from St. John's University Law School in 1957. Bill was employed by I.B.M. for over 30 years. He loved reading, going on family cruises, watching the NY Giants, going to Saratoga in August, and was an avid NY Ranger fan.
Bill was predeceased by his parents, Mary and Peter Hamilla, his brother, John, his sisters, Margaret (John) Lyons and Mary Jane (William) Flannery. He was also predeceased by his beloved son, Robert, who passed away on September 25, 2019.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Joan, of 66 years, his son, Mark (Victoria), his daughter, Lorraine Monahan and his daughter-in-law, Ann. He is also survived by his adored grandchildren, Christopher (Caitlin), Mark Jr. (Adrienne), Danielle DeLibertis (Frank), Shannon Monahan and Liam Monahan and by his five great-grandsons, John, Caleb, Patrick, Finnegan, and Vincenzo and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A wake will be held Thursday, September 7, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Service Inc., 321 S Main St, New City, New York 10956. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, September 8, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Victories, 150 Harriot Ave, Harrington Park, NJ 07640. Burial will be Friday, September 8, 2023 at 12:00 PM at Oak Hill Cemetery, 140 N. Highland Ave., Nyack, NY 10960.
