

Philip J. Caponigro of Congers, NY passed away on June 15, 2010. He was 85 years old. Phil was born to Angelina and Albert Caponigro on December 20, 1924 in Brooklyn, NY. He married Frances Magera in 1948 and moved the family from the Bronx to Congers in 1966. His wife, Frances, predeceased him in 1998. He is survived by his son, Philip W., his daughter-in-law Megan, and grandchildren Christopher and Julianne, all of Congers and his daughter Christine of Valley Cottage. Phil was the eldest of seven children. He is predeceased by a brother Amadeo who died as a child and is survived by his brothers Tommy, Armando and Guido; his sisters Marie and Olga, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Phil was an independent businessman in Rockland for many years, and was a Service Consultant for Curry Chevrolet in Scarsdale before he retired in 1989. He enjoyed his weekly pinochle games with his friends, gardening, the Pearl River Gun Club and the Sons of Italy in Suffern, but most loved spending time with his grandchildren, whom he adored with all his heart. Visitations will be at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home in New City on Friday June 18th from 2-4pm & 7-9pm. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Augustine's Church in New City at 9:30am on Saturday, June 19th with internment following at Ascension Cemetery in Monsey, NY.
