Richard Durante

Richard Durante of New Hempstead, Rockland County, NY passed away peacefully with relatives and friends by his side on January 2, 2011. Richard was born in Brooklyn, NY graduating from Bushwick High School where he excelled in basketball. He moved to Spring Valley after high school and spent many years coaching his beloved game of basketball at St. Joe's CYO, capturing several state championships. He was an active member of The Rotary and many local organizations and will be remembered for his good humor, warmth and personality touching the lives of many. Richard will be greatly missed by his family and a multitude of friends. He was the beloved son of the late Marie (Mary) and Vincenzo (Jimmy), and his brother Vincent Durante. He will be sadly missed by his many nieces and nephews; Theresa and Matthew Casciani and their children Danielle, Matthew, and Julia; Vincent Durante and his children Nicole, Alexandra, and Vincent Jr.; Thomas and Beth Durante and their children Heather and Kristina. Our family circle has been broken but you will always be in our hearts. Visiting will be held on Tuesday January 4 and Wednesday January 5 from 2- 4 & 7-9 at Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday January 6 at St. Joseph's Church at 10am in Spring Valley, NY followed by entombment at Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, NY.
