

Richard D. Smith (Dick), 86, devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and loving friend passed away peacefully on Friday, July 10, 2015. He graduated from Fordham Law School and was an accomplished attorney and arbitrator. His life and career at Chubb & Son for 50 years was culminated by his rise to President of Chubb. He touched the lives and hearts of all who came within his path as the leader of Chubb. His next journey was to share his knowledge as professor in the graduate program at Seton Hall. He was chairman of the Board of Seton Hall’s School of Business, Gerald P. Buccino Center for Leadership Development. Richard was born in New Brunswick, NJ on November 9, 1928 to the late John and Viola Smith. He married his high school sweetheart, Helen and they shared their life and love for the next 68 years. They were residents of Morristown, NJ for 38 years and recently moved back to New City, NY. His unending devotion remains with his loving wife, Helen, his five children, eleven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Each heart is filled with the love he shared with them. Visitation will be Monday, July 13 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at Higgins Funeral Home, 321 S. Main St., New City, NY. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 14 at 10 am at St. Augustine’s Church in New City with burial to follow at St. Anthony’s Cemetery in Nanuet, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations to Joe Raso, United Hospice of Rockland, (www.hospiceofrockland.org or 845-634-7974) in Richard’s honor would be greatly appreciated.
