Robert Joseph Burns Sr, of Valley Cottage, NY passed away peacefully on January 17, 2022 at the age of 88. Robert, known to friends as Bob, was born to Edward and Florence Burns in Yonkers, NY. He was a Korean War Veteran, serving in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955. Bob married the late Jean Licovitch in 1956 and the two moved their young family to Valley Cottage where he enjoyed a long career as a plant manager at County Asphalt. He will be reunited with his wife, Jean (2001) and son, Robbie (2020).
During his lifetime, Bob served as dedicated and active member in his community. He was involved in Valley Cottage Little League, St. Paul’s Parish, and the Nyack High School Monday Morning Quarterbacks. He was a member of the Pearl River Legion and stood post at Camp Shanks. He especially loved his weekly walks and lunch with friends and hosting backyard barbeques with his family. Bob was known for his contagious smile and lively stories. His energy and love of life will be missed by all that knew him, but his legacy will live on in the values he instilled in his family.
Bob is survived by his daughters Patricia J. Burns-Calderoni and her husband Robert, and Barbra Burns. He is also survived by his seven cherished grandchildren Kristin Calderoni-Garvey, Robert and Erin Calderoni, and Kalynn, Robert (R.J.), Shannon, and Patrick Burns. Bob was fortunate to live to see three
great-grandchildren Emma and Brianna Garvey, and Tripp Calderoni.
Friends may call Sunday, 3-7pm at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Services, New City. A Funeral Mass will be held Monday at 11am in St. Paul’s Church, Congers. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery Rockland Lake.
