Robert (Bob) Charles Dupee Jr, 73, of Congers, NY passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 surrounded by his beloved wife Mary Ann, his children Heather, Patrick and Katie, son-in- law, Cal and his brother-in-law Dr. Thomas Hahn.
Bob was born in New Rochelle, NY in 1950 to Mary Patricia (Bracken) and Robert C. Dupee Sr. They moved to Blauvelt, NY in 1955 where Bob attended St. Catherine’s Grammar School and Don Bosco Prep for high school where he was a leader in the classroom and on the football field. After graduating from Don Bosco, Bob attended Stony Brook University and graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University. While in college, Bob worked full time and served in the National Guard.
Bob was immensely proud of his six years of service in the National Guard. Following college and the National Guard, Bob forged a successful career in the technology sector where he worked for a number of financial institutions, including Smith-Barney and JP Morgan Chase. His family often jokes that his job was so impressive and complicated that they never fully understood his day to day role, but they did see and appreciate how hard he worked.
Bob’s long hours of work never got in the way of his intense commitment to his community. Bob worked to ensure sports helped shape the lives of youth like it did his by serving as the President of the St. Paul’s Athletic League for basketball and the President of the Nyack-Valley Cottage Little League. He was also a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus St. Dominic's Council in Blauvelt where he assisted the organization in countless ways, including running the weekly football pool.
Everyone who knew Bob knew how much he loved sports. He was a devoted fan of the New York Giants and New York Yankees and was an avid golfer. Some of Bob’s fondest memories were watching the Giants and Yankees win a number of championships with family and friends and spending Saturday afternoons golfing. Some of his worst memories involved watching the Giants and Yankees lose a number of championships and playing the occasional poor round of golf.
Many friends graced Bob’s life. Bob was especially proud of his lifelong friendships with Kathy and Kevin McAndrew. Bob, Mary Ann, Kathy and Kevin grew up together, raised families together and enjoyed spending vacations together at Long Beach Island, Las Vegas and Atlantic City. Concerts, card games, slots and the beach led to cherished memories that lasted a lifetime.
Though he loved his career, friends, sports and volunteer work, nothing was more important to Bob than his family. He met the love of his life, Mary Ann, at a CYO sponsored dance at St. Catherine’s in 1967. They quickly fell in love and were married in November 1969. Their family and friends will always be in awe of their love and devotion to each other which spanned over 55 years. Mary Ann almost literally never left Bob’s side when dealing with an illness the last few months of his life. Bob and Mary Ann cherished their time raising their children, Heather, Patrick and Katie.
Bob devoted his life to his family. He worked incredibly hard to provide the best life possible for them. He always made sure Mary Ann and his children came first. The Dupee’s enjoyed family dinners nearly every night and great summers on Long Beach Island with family and friends. He was there for every event and provided the perfect blueprint for how his children raised their own children.
Bob’s favorite role was that of a grandparent. He treasured his time with his grandchildren. He never missed their sporting events, school plays or any milestone no matter how big or small. He was a constant presence in their lives. The grandchildren spent much of their childhood at Grandma and Grandpa’s house enjoying card games, watching and talking sports and enjoying Grandpa’s legendary “Parma Rosa” pasta. If anyone was put on earth to be a Dad and Grandpa, it was Bob.
Bob will be immensely missed, although his family will carry on his legacy by working hard and always trying to do the right thing. He will always be remembered by his wife Mary Ann, his children Heather Cahill (Cal), Patrick Dupee (Marcelina), Katie Galvin (Brian) and his grandchildren Brendan, Matthew and Erin Cahill, Brady Dupee, Maeve, Owen and Cole Galvin and Jency, Jason and Andy Lopez.
He is survived by his brothers Joseph McKay and Christopher Dupee, sister Catherine Kidd, brother-in-law Dr. Thomas Hahn and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, Robert and Patricia Dupee, brother Ricardo McKay and sister Mary Pat Hebel.
Family will receive friends on Sunday, September 22nd from 2:00-7:00 pm at Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, September 23rd at 10:00 am St. Francis of Assisi in West Nyack, NY.
