Robert E. Lockhart

October 3, 1933 – April 5, 2023
Obituary of Robert E. Lockhart
IN THE CARE OF

Michael J. Higgins Funeral Service Inc.

Robert Edward Lockhart, a longtime resident of Congers, NY, and Waveny Care Center in New Canaan, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2023, at the age of 89. He was born on October 3, 1933, in Manhattan, to George and Petronellia (Betty) Lockhart, and had a brother, George Lockhart.

Robert met the love of his life, Geraldine Iorio, at a church dance in 1956, and they tied the knot on August 17, 1957, at the Church of the Holy Name in Manhattan. They had a long and happy marriage of 58 years and raised five children: Carol, Bobby, Kathy, Michael, and Karen. They were also blessed with 14 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Robert enlisted in the Marine Corps after high school through the GI bill and served in Japan during the Korean War. He earned a bachelor's degree in business from St. John's University while working full-time for the USPS and as a staff photographer for the NYC Mayor's office. He worked tirelessly throughout his life to provide for his family, holding up to four jobs at once, including photographer and sales representative positions for Kodak, GAF, Honeywell, and Agfa.

Robert was devoted to the Catholic Church and had a lifelong commitment to serving its community. He served as an altar boy, usher, lector, bingo organizer, and member of the Knights of Columbus. His deep faith was born from growing up in poverty, and the church provided much-needed support for his family, including food donations. He loved to travel, and one of his most cherished memories was when he and Geraldine went to the Holy Land with St. Paul's Church and met Pope John Paul II.

A private funeral will be held for immediate family members.
