

Ross C. Jones, a longtime resident of the area, passed away on November 3, 2011 at Nyack Hospital. The son of the late Ross Jones and Florence Conway Jones, he was born on November 25, 1936 in Manhattan. After many years in the construction business, Ross changed course, earned a college degree and obtained certification as a social worker and counselor, which became his passion. For the past 30 years he has served as a group home coordinator, supervisor, and counselor for various group homes for troubled youth, and up until recently, he was a case manager for Rockland County Association for the Learning Disabled. As a veteran of the U.S. Navy, he was a past post commander for VFW San Juan-Romagne Post 3050 in Spring Valley, and remained an active member of the VFW Post and of the Fred Eller American Legion Post in Monsey.
Ross is survived by his loving wife Katherine; his sister Ray Rittenhouse, husband Peter and family; his son Gerard, wife Heather and grandchildren Eric, Avery, Arden, and Ainsley; his loving stepchildren Barbara Ovsak, husband Denis and granddaughter Hillary; Robert Cinque, wife Shelley and granddaughter Lisa; Michael Cinque, wife Lian and grandchildren Kayla and Michael Tai. His warmth, wonderful sense of humor and caring nature will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Memorial contributions in Ross's name may be made to the Disabled American Veterans Organization, PO Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250. Memorial visitation is from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, November 10 at Higgins Funeral Home in New City. A Mass will be held 11 a.m. on Friday November 11 at St. Francis of Assisi in West Nyack.
