

Rudy J. Damonti entered into eternal rest on March 21, 2013. Rudy just celebrated his 80th birthday with his loving family. Rudy was born March 8, 1933 in the Bronx to Joseph and Teresa (Berta) Damonti. He graduated from Evenderchild High School in the Bronx and then entered the United States Air Force serving proudly in the Alaskan Air Command during the Korean War. Rudy received a Bachelors degree from NYU. Rudy met the love of his life Mary Ann (Costa) in Neptune City, NJ and they married on September 8, 1956 at St. Elizabeth's Church in Avon, NJ. Rudy and Mary Ann moved to Valley Cottage in 1966 where they raised their children. Rudy worked for Scholastic Publications in Englewood Cliffs, NJ for over 30 years as a Fulfillment Director. After retiring, he then began his second career with the Town of Clarkstown Receiver of Taxes. Rudy accepted a position with the Town Council as Senior Citizen director and constituent services representative. Rudy has held the position of Parks Board and Recreation Commissioner for over 20 years and was instrumental in developing and building many of Clarkstown's facilities. He was the treasurer for the Valley Cottage Indians and the Monday morning quarterbacks, he was a trustee with the Sons of Italy, he was past president of the Korean War Veterans, he was a member of the American Legion in New City, the VFW, he served on the Church Council for St. Paul's Church in Congers and he was also a member of the Conservative party. Rudy had a passion for public service and helping others but his greatest joy came from spending time with his family and his cherished grandchildren. Rudy especially looked forward to his Friday night dates with his special lady (Mare). Rudy will be greatly missed by his family who so lovingly adored him and by all his friends who loved and respected him.
Rudy is survived by his beloved wife Mary Ann Damonti of Valley Cottage NY, his children Rudy and his wife Teri of PA, John and his wife Barbara of NYC, Joseph and his wife Monica of New City, his grandchildren Denise, Rudy, Anthony, Samantha, Jamie, Nico and his great granddaughter Bella.
The family will receive friends Monday and Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Service Inc. A mass of Christian burial will be offered Wednesday at 10am at St. Paul's Church in Congers, NY. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Rudy's name to United Hospice of Rockland, 11 Stokum Lane, New City, NY 10956.
