Sr. Catherine A. Reddy

Sister Catherine (Kay) Reddy,C.D.P.of Valley Cottage,NY passed away on Wednesday, February 16 at the age of 85. She was born on Jan. 27, 1937 in Bronx, NY to James and Catherine (Mullarkey) Reddy. Sr. Kay is predeceased by her brothers, James (Sonny), Martin (Buddy, Patrick and Michael Reddy. She is survived by her sister Mary (Reddy) Reichley and dear friend and sister in Christ, Sister Gloria Jean Henchy, C.D.P, nieces and nephews, Michael, Cathy, Jonathan, Kathleen, Timothy, and Jimmy and grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was raised in “The Bronx” where she graduated from Grace Dodge high School. As a lay woman Kay belonged to the Third Order Franciscans and attended and worked at Camp St. Helen’s in upstate NY. At a young age she began working at M.S. Meyers and remained there for many years. She later joined a Catholic Charismatic community and never returned to the Bronx to live.

Her years of service and ministry included St Rocco’s in Newark, NJ, Immaculate Conception in Mahwah, NJ, St. Therese in Cresskill, NJ, where she started a ministry of Social Concerns, which ministered to the poor and Senior Citizens. She later ministered at St. Joseph’s parish in Demarest, NJ. While working for a Mental Health Clinic.

Sister Catherine helped found the Community of Divine Providence with her friend and sister in Christ, Sr. Gloria Jean Henchy,C.D.P. Her final days of ministry took her to St. Paul parish in Congers, NY. Along the way, they included many lay Associates. Sister Kay was loved by many and will be remembered for her generous spirit and kind heart. She deeply believed in God’s Providential love and care and lived that every day.

Visitation will be held at Michael J Huggins Funeral Services in New City, NY on Tuesday, Feb. 22 from 4-8 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Paul Church in Congers. NY on Wed. Feb, 23 at 11:15 a.m. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery in Congers., NY.

Memorial donations in Sister Catherine’s name may be made to the Community of Divine Providence.
