Sunita Mohan Badgujar

Sunita Mohan Badgujar (“Suna”) passed away peacefully, surrounded by all her loved ones, on January 10, 2021. Suna loved life and made friends easily. Her chosen passion and profession were in child development and childcare, in which she excelled naturally. Along the way, she obtained CDA and Childcare Associate degrees to complement her passion, and had numerous children “graduate” from her Teddy Bear Kids Care program.

Over the past 27 years, Suna’s passion in her childcare did not go unnoticed. She was awarded Terri Lynn Lockoff Foundation’s Excellence in Childcare award in 2002. She and her childcare program were also featured in Rockland Journal News around that time, and, in 2003, the County of Rockland, NY honored Suna with the Distinguished Service Award.

Through the years, Suna helped numerous young families in their childcare needs with compassion and exemplary care to the extent that several of her graduates and their parents became family friends and kept in touch, years after leaving TBKC.

Suna’s other passion was cooking, and she excelled not only in traditional Indian cuisine but also in Italian, Mexican, Chinese and American popular dishes. True to her philosophy of loving people and cooking them tasty food, she arranged grand parties and insisted on preparing all food herself. Some of her Italian friends swore that her Italian dishes reminded them of their mother’s cooking. She was the first one to provide a few trays of food to any celebrating or bereaving family, and the first in line for anyone in need of any help.

Suna is survived by her loving husband Mohan and sons, Anand (Becky) and Gautam (Sarah) and two granddaughters—Kennedy and Reagan.

Suna’s favorite charity was People to People, where Mohan volunteered and Suna and Mohan supported with cash and food donations at every possible occasion.

At only 55 years of young age, Suna made a tremendous impact on a generation of children through her profession; on numerous younger women that she mentored both socially and in childcare business; and, generally on anyone that came in contact with her. The light she has shone on the lives she has touched will burn bright forever.

The Badgujars will receive a limited amount of friends and family for a visitation on Thursday January 14th from 10:15AM to 11:30AM at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, Sunita has asked that donations be made to her favorite charity, People to People (121 West Nyack Road, Nanuet, NY 10954), so that we can keep people fed who are in need, especially during this time of year.
