

Thomas J. Shannon, 70, passed away suddenly on September 10, 2014 at his home. Tom was born in the Washington Heights section of NYC and was one of nine children. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 50 years JoAnn (Gash), his daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Rick Roscoe of Vero Beach, FL and grandchildren, Dana, Danielle and Ryan Roscoe, sisters, Patricia Deger and Frances Succhi, and brother, David along with numerous loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Viola and Robert Shannon, brothers, Robert, James and George and sisters, Roberta Maloney and Valerie D'Alessandro. Tom became an NYPD Police Officer in 1968 and in 1972 sustained a life threatening and permanently damaging injury while on duty. No longer an active Police Officer, Tom, with the total love and support of his wife and daughter and his own determination was able to enjoy the next 42 years of his life. He enjoyed tinkering around his home and pool, his doo-wop music, going to local restaurants and most of all, being with his close family, many relatives and dear friends.
Family will receive visitors at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY on Saturday, September 13th from 7-9pm and on Sunday, September 14th from 2-4 and 7-9pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Augustine's Church, New City on Monday, September 15th 10am with burial to follow at Gethsemane Cemetery, Congers, NY. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Tom's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
