

Tim was born in Bronx, NY on July 13, 1937 to Daniel and Catherine O’Callaghan. After graduating St. Nicholas of Tolentine HS, he enrolled at Iona College, later joining the ranks of the New York City Police Department in 1959. His tenure with the NYPD was postponed when he was called to serve our country in the United States Army, stationed at Ft. Sill, OK. Upon returning to the NYPD, he continued his tenure patrolling the Bronx and Manhattan. In 1961,Tim met the love of his life, Maureen Hastings, and they were married in 1963. They lived in the Fordham section of the Bronx, where they started their family, before moving to New City in 1972. Tim retired from the NYPD in 1994, after proudly serving for 35 years, rising in the ranks retiring as a Sergeant Detective Squad. Tim achieved many accolades within the Police Department and was one of the lead investigators on the tragic and infamous Happy Land Social Club murders.
Tim was a proud founding member of the Rockland County Police Emerald Society Pipes and Drums where he enjoyed participating in numerous parades and tattoos. He was also a proud member of the Rockland County Shields, NYPD Holy Name and Emerald Societies, New City Knights of Columbus, Hudson Valley 10-13 Club, and the Haverstraw Elks.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Maureen O’Callaghan, his four children, son Michael (Trina) of Patterson, NY, daughter Jean Anne English (Patrick) of Dresher, PA, son Timothy (Mary Kate) of Pearl River, NY, and son Joseph (Justine) of Apex, NC. Tim was affectionately known as Pa to his twelve beloved grandchildren Ashley (Jared), Michael (Lexi), Erin, Connor, Hailey, Logan, Brigid, Katie, Emma, Claire, Breck, and Seraphina as well as two great-grandchildren Vincent and Lorenzo. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Tim was predeceased in death by his loving parents, Daniel and Catherine, as well as beloved brother Peter.
A visitation for Timothy will be held Tuesday, March 18, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Service Inc., 321 South Main Street, New City, NY 10956. A funeral mass will occur Wednesday, March 19, 2025 from 11:30 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 128 Parrott Rd, West Nyack, NY 10994 with interment to follow at St. Anthony’s Cemetery in Nanuet, NY.
In lieu of flowers, the family is kindly requesting donations be made in Tim’s name to St. Jude’s Children's Research Hospital.
