Virginia was born on September 4, 1920 in Cedar Creek, Indiana and spent most of her childhood in Twin Falls, Idaho. She graduated from McPherson College in 1941 and met her beloved husband John E. Bowman working for the Brethren Service Commission. They were married in 1945 and had three daughters. Virginia’s husband John was Executive Director of the Council of International Educational Exchange and they traveled widely throughout their life together.
Virginia had a long history of civic engagement and volunteerism. She was active in the League of Women Voters, in the Reformed Church of Spring Valley, and served on the East Ramapo Board of Education. She also loved music, and sang with her church choir most of her life. She was also active with the Rockland Conservatory of Music. She leaves behind her three daughters, Carol, Kathy and Brett, her two grandchildren, Susanna and Jonny, her extended family, and her Skyview neighbors.
Virginia was much beloved for her kindness, her elegance, her intelligence, and her love for all things purple. She will be most greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held at the United Church of Spring Valley on Monday, September 3rd at 12:00pm. Attendees are welcome to visit with the Bowman Family at their home following the service.
