Walter C. Fiedler
June 23, 1941 – May 3, 2022
Walter Carl Fiedler of New City, New York, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2022, at the age of 80. A true bastion of society, Walter dedicated himself to the benefit of all around him at every stage of his life. He was a Boy Scout Explorer Leader when he was a teen. As a Bronx elementary school teacher for 40 years, he touched countless lives and has kept in touch with many of his mentees. As a volunteer with the Nanuet Ambulance Corps, Walter founded the Youth Corps in 1979, as well as reaching the rank of Captain. He has performed in countless community theater productions in and around Rockland County. In the years after retirement, he kept active with the RCC Senior Club as president over several terms. He taught acting and improv at the JCC and RCC. He was writing and supporting his ‘elders’ in the Clarkstown Senior Shows, and volunteering with the Music Makers, creating joy in local senior centers, rehabilitation facilities, nursing homes, and libraries. As a pancreatic cancer survivor, he devoted time and energy as a peer support counselor for others afflicted. Walter’s rich interests include a lifetime love of music, with talents in clarinet, singing, saxophone, and acting. He was an avid reader, parodyist and trivia buff: He was proud of the hoard of medals he and his family won year after year at Beautiful Mt. Airy Lodge and on every cruise vacation, and participated fervently with the JCC trivia. Walter was a dedicated family man, eloping with Barbara in 1963, abetted by his dear Aunt Olga Brodsky. Walter and Barbara were happily married for 58 years, during which he also committed his life to supporting the interests of daughter Danielle (John), son Blaine, and grandchildren Isabella and Miles.
