William “Bill” Roche passed away peacefully after a brief battle with cancer on May 11, 2016. A native of Ireland, Bill was a proud American who emigrated in the late 1940’s. However, he always kept firm roots in Ireland and was avid fan of the sport of hurling On any given Sunday Bill could be found huddled over his laptop live streaming the matches. He also he played for Kilkenny Hurling @ Gaelic Park in NYC in the early 1950’s. Bill was a hard worker who was committed to supporting his family. He began his American journey as a bus-driver while working at City Island Marinas on the boats. Additionally, he rose to the ranks of a dispatcher at the MBTA He also drove buses for the Clarkstown School District.
Regardless of his age & much to the dismay of his golf “buddies”, he continued into his early 90’s as a powerhouse on the golf course. Bill is predeceased by his son William J. Roche (1979) & daughter Mary Alice Roche(2013). Surviving member of the immediate family is Patricia “Trish” Roche and her partner, Regina Shelton. Bill will be remembered for his passion for life, humor, his singing abilities and his golf game. He woke up most mornings and was immediately singing. He is missed greatly and most recently was joined by his wife, Jane C Roche in heaven. Both Bill Roche & Jane C Roche will be buried in St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery in Nanuet, NY. Services will be held at St. Anthony’s Shrine at 10:00 AM on September 28th, 2018.
