Immediately after high school, Cindi felt the calling to devote her life to God by becoming a nun. She entered the Servants of St. Mary’s convent in Ladysmith, where she studied and lived for six months. During that time, Cindi realized that convent life was not her calling. A decision she regretted for the remainder of her life.
Returning to Minneapolis, Cindi attended Vocational Technical School in downtown Minneapolis, where she studied Dietary Foods. This began a 25-year career in the food service field.
Although very shy, her nature was extremely generous and she wanted to help care for others, so Cindi’s next adventure was earning her Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license. Unfortunately, a back injury prevented her from ever working in that field. She returned to food service, eventually working for an additional 19 years. Her favorite employer was the Catholic Eldercare in Northeast Minneapolis, where she remained until her retirement in 2011.
Retirement brought Cindi a peaceful and fulfilling new chapter to her life. She found a wonderful home and a quiet life in the St. Therese Independent Living community, where she enjoyed the comforts of retirement and the community around her.
As her health declined, Cindi moved to Woodlake Care Center Long Term Care in 2024, where she remained until her death. The final two years of her life left her bedridden and often isolated, but she found comfort and connection through her GrandPad, a computer designed for those who were less comfortable with technology. With it, Cindi discovered a whole new world, learning to search Google, send emails to family members, and stay connected to the people she loved. One of her favorite activities was playing Yahtzee with her sister, Barb, and her grandnephew, Owen. Her GrandPad became much more than a computer—it was her lifeline to the outside world and a source of joy and companionship during a difficult chapter of her life.
After a brief illness and hospital stay, Cindi was called home to Heaven, where she is now reunited with her beloved mother and father.
A small graveside service will be held at Gethsemane Cemetery of New Hope, MN at 1:00pm.
