Gary was reunited in passing with his beloved wife of 61 years, Marlene Mattice. He was also preceded in death by his son, Shawn Charles; his parents, Marie and Harvey; his brothers, Charles (who passed in infancy) and Marlyn; his sister, Darlene Schliemann; his sister and brothers-in-law, Dart Mattice, Chuck Schliemann, and Larry Hanson.
He is survived by his loving sons, Marlin (Deanna), Dan (Julie), and Matt; daughter-in-law, Cindy; and his cherished grandchildren, Samuel (Carly), Joseph (Madi), Ariana, Benjamin, Brittany (Jake), Dan (Erica), Annika, and Abby. Gary was the proud great-grandfather of Mason, Sophia, Jax, and Imelda (coming soon). He also leaves behind his brother, Richard (Dick) Mattice; sister, Mary (David) Tyler; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jane Hanson, Mark (Jeanne) Schleif, and Ron (Laura) Schleif; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
A celebration of Gary's life will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2026, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 4240 Gettysburg Ave N, New Hope, MN. Visitation will begin at 10:30 am, followed by the memorial service at 11:00 am. A luncheon will follow the service.
