Kathy was born in Minneapolis to Ruth and Stephen Wennes, the second of six siblings. She attended the University of Minnesota, where she met the love of her life, Ed Hamilton. They married in 1963 and had two children, Leah and Kevin, to whom Kathy was a devoted and energetic mother. She later returned to the University of Minnesota to complete her degree. She went on to work for the City of Robbinsdale. During her children’s youth, she initiated a 4th of July celebration including a parade and other activities that became an annual tradition in their neighborhood in Plymouth. Kathy loved gatherings of her extended family and friends and could be relied on to remember who was connected to who at those events. She was renowned for her persistent advocacy for those she felt needed help, particularly for her brother who was living with MS. As her children grew into adulthood, she was proud of their evolving careers and was always there to offer guidance (sometimes wanted, sometimes not), support and encouragement, no matter what challenges they faced. In later years, when significant health issues impacted her mobility, she loved watching vintage television shows late into the night while consuming remarkable amounts of salty snacks and candy. She also cherished the opportunity to brag about the varying paths that her grandchildren were taking as they became adults. Her legacy lives on in those who survive her.
Kathy was predeceased by her parents, her husband Ed, and her brother Mike.
She is survived by her cherished children Leah (Mike) Kotzer and Kevin (Danielle) Hamilton, and her grandchildren Madelyn, Eddie, Kaylee, Belle, Joely, and Samuel; her siblings Stephen Wennes (Barbara Dewing), Sue Miler (David Doi), Liz Wennes (Bob Hunter), and Mary (Dennis) Kelly; and friends she cherished throughout her life.
