Lorraine Genevivie Levandoski Moe
Matriarch, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Volunteer, Friend, and Woman Extraordinaire. These are but a few of the titles of our much beloved Mother, Lorraine.
We have so much to be grateful for as we celebrate our Mother’s Life.
Leading by example, Mom worked hard, complained little, and read much. She was an avid community supporter as an Election Judge, wellness weekly water aerobics enthusiast, patron of culture attending the theatre regularly, and by volunteering her resources and time with the Brooklyn Center Women’s Club.
The Polanie Club, a Polish organization that honored the culture and traditions of Poland was an important part of Mother’s life.
Mother was baptized and attended school at the Basilica of Saint Mary, the first Catholic Basilica built in America. Our parents were married at the Basilica, and their children were baptized there. She was one of the oldest living parishioners of the church. Mother is being featured at the Basilica of Saint Mary Centennial as an important piece of the Church History. Church Magazine interviews with Mother will be an important contribution to the Church legacy.
Always taking good care of Dad, cooking the best and most nutritional meals for him; making sure he was ready to go whether for a tennis match, day at work, hunting, coaching hockey, or going out dancing together; their mutual love shined. With certainty and kindness, she took care of the needs of her children and all that we were involved in while simultaneously working full time and baking cakes to bring up to church on Saturdays. Mother had great sewing and knitting skills. She knitted beautiful bassinet sets including coordinating sweater, booties, and hats for many of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She sewed school and prom dresses as the seasons of our youth dictated.
We learned and experienced at a young age the privilege of multi-generational living as Grandmother Marie lived with us for several years.
Travelling to watch her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren has been of great value and her legacy. She has travelled across America to watch them in a broad array of events:
Ballet, Hockey, Musicals, Swimming, Horsemanship, Soccer, Snowboarding, Golf, Baseball, Dance, Figure-Skating, Football, Tennis, Speed Skating, Surfing, Etc.
People often commented on Rogers great athleticism, what they did not know is that Mother was an athlete in her own right. She was a great ballroom dancer to the music of the Big Band era. Mom and Dad danced three and four weekends a month passing on the love of music and dance to their children.
Bowling became entertainment and a social passion. Leagues were part of their culture. In 1998, she had a high game of 212 and a total series of 513, winning league championships several years. Mom and Dad bowled into their late 70’s.
Mother gathered her family around her bed the day before she passed. She was alert, sharing her most heartfelt thoughts to be cherished and passed on. She was at peace and happy as she cuddled with her white, stuffed softer than soft polar bear “Roger.” She shared, “Roger is waiting for me.” Roger the Polar Bear was given to Melissa for her first baby, Mothers newest and 22nd great grandchild coming soon.
She often looked toward the heavens out her window and commented, “They’re everywhere,” referring to the light spirits of angels, family and friends beyond our human reach.
“Love each other, and be good to each other. I’ll be watching from above,” are the last words of wisdom she shared with us.
