I have so many happy memories of my Aunt Anne. First, foods. I will forever link my aunt to Almond Joys and Mounds (which she brought when she babysat us), her “gold salad” (a jello concoction that she made for holiday meals, which got few takers), and Chow Mein and egg rolls (her favorite take-out). Then, Easter. She’d bring her hard boiled eggs for the competition, which she’d dyed naturally and to a beautiful golden brown with onion skins. I remember the egg hunts she had for us where she happily let us five ransack her room to find the Barricini eggs she had hidden in plain sight. But mostly I remember her love for her home, which she furnished and decorated and maintained with such care. I think her greatest sadness was not being able to be there until the end. And, of course, I remember the special relationship she had with her cats. She was a true Cat Lady. Though they scratched her furniture and broke her Hummels and peed on her rug, she deeply loved them. She was an organic gardener and a collector and a good neighbor and a loving sister and aunt. Not as demonstrative as some people but certainly deeply loving. And extremely generous. Heaven is zippier now that she’s there—with a lot more of the color red (if she has anything to say about it). And earth has lost some of its color. We love you, Auntie. Your niece Rose and niece-in-law Karen
