It is with a broken heart that the family of Antal Magosi announce his passing on April 6, 2020. After a difficult battle with Parkinson’s Disease, Antal passed away from complications of COVID-19. He was a loving husband to Heidi, his wife of 59 years, a devoted father to his son Robert and his daughter Diana, a cherished father in law to Michael, the beloved Opa to his grandchildren Brian, Karina and Ian, and a caring friend to many.
Antal (known to many as Tony) lived a remarkable life. Born in Budapest, Hungary in 1936, he participated in the Hungarian Revolution in 1956, and escaped to Germany during the ensuing Soviet crackdown. There he met the love of his life, Heidi; they would have celebrated their 60th anniversary this July. Antal was the embodiment of the American dream and a model of perseverance and compassion. He emigrated to the United States in 1959. He eventually bought the manufacturing company where he worked in Brooklyn, and built a successful business. Antal loved the outdoors and enjoyed skiing, biking, hiking and spending time in the woods. Some of his happiest times were spent with friends and family at the home he built in Vermont; working outdoors, chopping wood, tending his garden and sitting in his rocking chair overlooking the mountains. Antal and Heidi loved to travel and shared many wonderful trips all over Europe, the Caribbean, and many National Parks in the United States. He loved spending time with his three grandchildren, whether it was driving them to sports practices, teaching them how to fix things, or telling them tales from his incredible life. His legacy of hard work, kindness, generosity and strength will be carried on by all who loved him. There is no doubt that he lived his life to the fullest.
He will also be remembered for his love of family and friends, his generosity, and his talent for throwing fantastic parties. He loved nothing more than hosting a gathering of friends and family with an abundance of good food, plenty of good drinks, and lively conversation and music. He would have loved us all to share memories of him with each other and raise a toast to him; Prost Anti!
Antal’s ashes will be interred at Holy Rood Cemetery. Due to the current pandemic, memorial services will be held at a later date once we can all come together to celebrate his life.
