Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 12, 2021 (time pending) at Evangeline Funeral Home for Alton James Bourque, who passed away unexpectedly Friday, May 7, 2021. Following the services, Mr. Bourque will be laid to rest at Our Lady of the Lake Cemetery in Delcambre.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm, with the Rosary being prayed at 7:00 pm. Visiting hours will resume on Wednesday from 8:00 am until time of services.
Alton was born February 3, 1946 in Vermilion Parish to the late Etiene Bourque and the late Elize Hulin Bourque and was one of nine children. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, Louisiana National Guard with 20 years of patriotic service. Alton was a truck driver with 40 years on the job and worked with various companies throughout Acadiana.
In his spare time, he enjoyed playing pool and was an active member of the APA. Some of his other pastimes were camping, fishing, and selling shrimp, and most importantly spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mrs. Dianna said of her husband, “he was a people person who never met a stranger.” Rest well Alton for you have earned your heavenly reward.
Those left to cherish his memory is his wife of 41 years, Dianna Romero Bourque; his children, Sandy Duhon, Sonny Duhon, Belinda Duhon, Tracy Duhon (Celeste) and Sharon Lasseigne (Chad); 13 grandchildren, Ashley Abshire, Dustin Thibodeaux, Seth Duhon (Gail), Brice Duhon, Quinten Schello, Brylee Duhon, Cassie Duhon, Tanner Trahan, Brayton Hebert ,Braxton Hebert, Sayge Lormand, Bryson Daigle, and Devin Boutte; 8 great grandchildren, Jordyn, Rya, Kyzin, Hazeley, Ember, Hayzden, Arden and Harley; and his sister, Mary Jane Touchet.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters, his in-laws, Minos and Willa Mae Romero; grandson, Brett Dyson; and a brother-in-law, Lannis Romero.
Serving as pallbearers are Sonny, Tracy and Seth Duhon, Dustin Thibodeaux, Quinten Schello and Robert Watkins.
Honorary pallbearers are Gail Falgout, Brice Duhon (his grandson currently deployed overseas), Marshall Allen Hebert, Braxton and Brayton Hebert.
