

NEW IBERIA – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Alton Joseph Comeaux, age 82, at 10:00 am Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Fr. Mark Derise will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Mausoleum.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home on Monday from 12:00 noon until 9:00 pm, with the rosary being recited at 6:30 pm. The funeral home will reopen on Tuesday from 8:00 am until 9:30 am.
Mr. Comeaux passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 31, 2011 at Belle Teche Nursing Home, with his family at his side.
Alton was born February 18, 1929 to Eno and Sophie LeBlanc Comeaux and was one of eleven children. He retired from L.L. Golden Oil Co., as a fuel truck driver, with 28 years service and a spotless driving record, and also served as an auxiliary policeman with the New Iberia Police Department.
Alton was a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church where he served as an usher for over 30 years. But it was his love for his family that was greatest. He cherished the time spent with them and leaves behind many fond memories that will forever live on in their hearts.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Jessie Romero Comeaux of New Iberia; his children, Lester Comeaux and wife Deborah, Perry Comeaux and wife Tammy, Charmaine Comeaux Hebert all of New Iberia; and Loretta Comeaux of Arkansas; twelve grandchildren, Mark Comeaux, Amy Malanitch, Aaron Comeaux, Jessica LaPointe, Christopher Comeaux, Brett Comeaux, Shannon Comeaux Shea, Lance Beaver, Melody Beaver, Brent Hebert, Corey Hebert, and Angelle H. Ransonet; 22 great grandchildren; and his sisters, Melba C. Logue of Sulphur, Virginia C. Ronsonet of Baldwin, and Clara C. Bergeron of New Iberia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eno and Sophie Comeaux; and siblings, Maxie and Kelly Comeaux, Anna Mae Lorraine, Marlene Riles, Leola Delahoussaye, Ramona Plaissance and Janelle Abshire.
Serving as pallbearers will be Lester, Perry, Christopher, Brett, and Aaron Comeaux, Brent and Corey Hebert and Jacob Ransonet. Lance Beaver will serve as honorary pallbearer.
Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Comeaux’s name to Heart of Hospice, 201 W. Vermilion St., Lafayette, LA 70501.
