NEW IBERIA – A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for Armand Edward Myers, Sr. age 85, at 10:00 am on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with Fr. Korey Lavergne officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors by the Iberia Veteran’s Honor Guard.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Tuesday with a Rosary being led by the Men’s Rosary Group at 7:00 pm. The funeral home will reopen at 8:00 am on Wednesday until service time.
A native of Lydia and resident of New Iberia, Mr. Armand passed away on Saturday, June 08, 2019, with his family by his side.
Born on July 19, 1933, to the late Maurice and Laura Dupuy Myers, Armand was one of 5 children. Armand proudly served his country in the United States Airforce during the Korean War and was honorably discharged on January 6, 1956. During his time in service, he was stationed in France and received the National Defense Service Medal. After his discharge from the Airforce, Armand worked as a truck driver for National Welding Supply for many years until his retirement in 1998. In 1952, Armand married the love of his life, Elma Gary, and started a family in New Iberia. They were married for 60 years until Mrs. Elma’s passing in 2013. Armand was a loving father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family. In his free time, he would often hunt for rabbit and deer with his son and sons-in-law or trawl for shrimp in his boat, the Cheri Renee, on the Vermilion Bay. He will be truly and deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his four children, Patsy Arceneaux, Pamela Romero and husband Barry, Sheila Thompson, and Armand Myers, Jr. and wife Cindy all of New Iberia; nine grandchildren, Donald Arceneaux, Jr. and wife Kelly, Angela Arceneaux, Brandi Arceneaux, Cheri Romero, Leah Peltier and husband Jeff, Jeremy Romero and wife Marsha, Shannon Myers, Trey Myers and wife April and Rickie Myers; twenty one great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Elma Gary Myers; sons, Rickie Myers and Roland Myers; parents, Maurice and Laura Dupuy Myers; brothers, Stanley Myers, Dalton “Joe” Myers, and Robert Myers; sister, Julia Patterson; and son-in-law, Donald Arceneaux, Sr.
Pallbearers will be Donald Arceneaux, Jr., Jeremy Romero, Shannon Myers, Trey Myers, Rickie Myers, and Jason Arceneaux.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Armand’s daughter and caregiver, Patsy Arceneaux, for her love, dedication, and care. Thanks also to Ms. Jennifer Snoddy, the staff of Hope Hospice, and Dr. Paul Gulotta.
