

NEW IBERIA – Funeral Services will be conducted for Mr. Avery Owen Choate, age 94, at 1:00 pm Friday, December 6, 2013 at Evangeline Funeral Home with Deacon Patrick Burke officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Family Mausoleum.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until service time on Friday with a Rosary immediately preceding the service.
A native of Pecan Island and a resident of New Iberia, Mr. Choate passed away at 7:25 pm on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at his residence.
Mr. Choate was a WWII veteran, serving in the U.S. Army Air Force. In his earlier life, Mr. Choate raised cattle then later went on to open his own towing business. After his retirement, he went on to spend his time doing many of the things he loved such as gardening, yard work, spending time on his lawn mower and tractor helping anyone in the neighborhood. Mr. Choate also enjoyed tending to his orchard and garden and was happy to share his bounty with everyone. He had a brain for politics, current events and finance. Mr. Choate had many people in his life who cared about him a great deal and he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Irene Borres Choate of New Iberia, foster daughter, Brenda Foreman Elliott and husband Bruce of New Iberia and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Choate and Ida Mae Vaughn Choate; brothers, Boyd Choate, Clyde Choate, Darryl Choate, Elwood Choate and mother-in-law, Augusta “Gus” Crochet Borres.
Family members will serve as pallbearers.
The family would like to thank Mr. Choate’s caregivers, Charlene Lancon, Brenda Elliot, Pat and Ronald Boutte and Paramount Hospice for the outstanding care given selflessly by each of them.
