It is with heavy hearts and deep love that the Pellerin family announces the passing of Camella “Connie” Pellerin, who passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at Consolata Home in New Iberia. She was 86.
Connie, as she was affectionately known, was born on March 13, 1940, in New Iberia to the late Joseph Hanks and Solange Roberts Hanks. She was one of eight children born to that union.
Connie retired from the Iberia Parish School Board, where she faithfully served as a school bus aide for over 20 years. During that time, she lovingly watched over countless children as they boarded the bus each morning and returned home safely each afternoon. Many young lives were touched by her care, kindness, and gentle guidance.
A true homebody, Connie found her greatest joy in spending time with her family. Sundays were her favorite, when everyone gathered under one roof to share a meal prepared with love. Her okra gumbo, smothered chicken, and steak with rice and gravy were family favorites. And if that wasn’t enough, her homemade desserts—especially her apple nut cake and lemon meringue pie—were the perfect finishing touch to a wonderful meal.
Connie also enjoyed flower arranging and cake decorating, creating beautiful floral pieces and taking pride in making her baked goods as pleasing to the eye as they were to the taste. She often credited her skills to classes she attended with Miss Virginia. She was also well known as the “queen of garage sales,” always ready for a day of treasure hunting. She enjoyed trips to the casino with her daughter, Duwana, hoping to hit the jackpot—but in truth, she had already found it simply in being there and enjoying life.
Above all, Connie was devoted to her family and friends. She was generous in spirit and always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.
Though we will miss her dearly, we find comfort in knowing she has been restored to her heavenly home—free from sickness and pain, and embraced in eternal peace. Her memory will remain forever in our hearts. Connie, may your soul and all the souls of the faithfully departed rest in peace.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, David Pellerin (Jody), Dennis Pellerin (Vicki), Duwana Pellerin, Derek Pellerin (Angela), Darin Pellerin (Becki) and Brock Pellerin; her great grandson, Jace Bowlin, with whom she shared a special bond; her grandchildren, Skylar Pellerin (Eboly), Chanley Pellerin, and Ashlyn Pellerin, Ian Pellerin, Aubrey Pellerin, Lyndsey Lane (Jeff), Hunter Pellerin, Megan Albert (Corey), Justin Pellerin, Breadon Pellerin (Kayla), Taeler Pellerin (Josh), Courtney Rodriguez, Noah Pellerin, Saige Pellerin and Addison Pellerin 35 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; and her faithful dog, Bingo.
