Known lovingly as “Gpaw” to his grandchildren, Colby was a man with a strong personality, a stubborn streak, and a sense of humor that made him unforgettable. He was one of a kind, always doing things his own way and leaving a lasting impression on those who knew and loved him. His family, his humor, and his determination were all part of what made him the man he was.
Colby was a hardworking man who took great pride in what he built. In 1975, he established Winmill Tire in New Iberia, Louisiana.
Through years of dedication and hard work, he built a business that became an important part of his life and legacy. His strong work ethic and determination were qualities that those closest to him knew so well.
Colby also had a true passion for tennis. He loved playing the game, competing in tennis tournaments, and challenging himself on the court. He also spent time coaching others, simply because he loved the sport and enjoyed sharing his knowledge and passion with those around him. Whether competing, coaching, or just enjoying time on the court, tennis was an important part of Colby's life. His competitive spirit and love for the game were just another reflection of his personality.
One of Colby's greatest joys was fishing. He especially loved fishing alongside Donna, his sons, grandchildren, family, and friends, making memories that will be treasured for generations. His favorite fishing spot was the “Jaws,” where he enjoyed catching redfish. For Colby, fishing was about more than just the catch; it was about spending time with the people he loved, sharing stories, enjoying a few laughs, and making memories together. Those days spent on the water will always hold a special place in his family's hearts.
Colby is survived by his significant other, Donna; his three sons, Brandon Winmill, Ryan Winmill, and Corey Winmill and his wife, Kacie; and his grandchildren, Bella, Jordan, Madisyn, Jadeyn, and Jaxon.
He is also survived by his sister, Carol Bang, and her husband, Terald; his brother, Curt Winmill, and his wife, Nancy; and many nieces and nephews who will cherish their memories of him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Harriet Winmill; his adoptive parents, Virgil and Donna Mae Winmill; and his brother, Corey.
Colby will be remembered for his humor, his stubborn determination, his love of fishing and tennis, and the life he built through years of hard work. To his grandchildren, he will always be Gpaw, a grandfather who shared his passions, made memories with them, and held a special place in their lives.
His legacy will live on through the family he loved, the business he built, the lessons he shared, the stories that will continue to be told, and the memories made together. Every trip to the water, every fish caught, every moment on the tennis court, and every laugh shared will serve as a reminder of the time they were blessed to spend with him.
Colby will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
