Darwin was born on June 10, 1956, in Church Point to Barbara Jean Matte Carriere and the late Shirley J. Brasseaux, Sr. He was raised in a family deeply rooted in their Cajun heritage. Over the years, Darwin made his mark in the Acadiana area through his work in sales and service. Alongside his wife Karen, he cherished their retreats to their camp at Toledo Bend, where they enjoyed fishing, sharing meals, and immersing themselves in the tranquil beauty of nature.
An avid enthusiast, Darwin earned a Black Belt in Karate and relished pitching horseshoes with friends and fellow members of the LA State Horseshoe Pitchers Association. However, his greatest passion was his family and friends. Although he will be deeply missed, his loved ones find solace in the belief that Darwin has gone ahead of them and that they will one day be reunited in eternal glory. Until that cherished reunion, they hold his memory close and say, "Rest well. We love you."
Darwin is survived by his devoted wife of 43 years, Karen Latiolais Brasseaux of Lafayette; his mother, Barbara Jean Matte Carriere of Church Point; his brothers, Byron Brasseaux and wife Sandy of Church Point, Joey Brasseaux and wife Dana of Crowley, and S.J. "Bubba" Brasseaux and wife Pam of Lake Charles; and several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jamie Lynn Brasseaux; his father, Shirley J. Brasseaux, Sr.; his step-father, John Julius Carriere; his paternal grandparents, Moise and Lela Olivier Brasseaux; and his maternal grandparents, Edison and Adeniza Richard Matte.
