David Wayne Hebert, an amazing father and grandfather, who also held the title as the #1 LSU Tigers fan, passed away Saturday, July 17, 2021 from complications related to COVID 19. At his death, he was 59 years old.

David was born May 27, 1962 in New Iberia to the late Felix Hebert and the late Ola Romero Hebert and was one of three children born to that marriage. He worked for many years with LAWCO and in the oilfield, and lastly for his son-in-law’s business.

His daughters spoke of their father with huge smiles on their faces, recalling his love for life and always having a smile for you when he greeted you. Family was most important to him and he lived his life accordingly. As any grandparent can attest, once those grandbabies are born, the children take a backseat. It was shared that “Paw Dave” would come in from work, grab the grandchildren and head off to some fun destination. He didn’t go home or stop for small talk with his “three favorite daughters”. That time was for the grandbabies that he loved to spoil rotten.

After family, David’s greatest pastime was sports. All sports and definitely anything relating to his beloved LSU Tigers. In David’s mind, there was no other colors except purple and gold. Nicole, Lindsey, and Courtney laughed when they recalled putting a Christmas tree up in his house with red bulbs all over it. They laughed, David not so much. In the words of Dave “ALABAMA SUCKS!” It was just one of many great and fun memories shared by his daughters that will continue to bring a smile every time it’s mentioned.

Although he is no longer physically with us, his memory will live on in the hearts and thoughts of all who knew and loved him. Rest well Dave for we will be reunited one day. GEAUX TIGERS!

Those left to cherish his memory are his three daughters, Nicole Daniels and husband Hutton, Lindsey Hebert and husband Matt and Courtney Hebert; his wife Candy Meyers; eight grandchildren, Allie Daniels, Gabrielle Daniels, Riley Daniels, Hudson Daniels, Willis Daniels, Kristionna Broussard, Rhionna Broussard and Kinley Derouen; his brother and sister, Randy Hebert and Lynette Romero; numerous nieces and nephews; and Candy’s beloved extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Felix and Ola Romero Hebert.

A Catholic Service celebrating David’s life will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Loreauville. Deacon Chris Doumit will officiate. Following the service, David will be laid to rest at All Saints Cemetery.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm, with the Men’s Rosary Group leading the rosary at 6:00 pm. Visiting hours will resume on Wednesday from 9:00 am until dismissal at 12:15 pm. You are encouraged to wear your favorite purple and gold LSU attire.

The family respectfully asks that COVID procedures be followed with masks required for entry at the funeral home and at church. We kindly thank you for your understanding.

I remember meeting David when he and Candy started dating David. For the first time in a long time I was looking at two people that truly loved each other, no words were spoken, but the sparks coming off from both of them were like fire, a burning love for each other like no other, beautiful. And they still had those same sparks all the way to the time David passed. Most of us wish we could find, so many more of us wish we had it too, but without a doubt those two did. I saw my best friend that lived a hard life, for the first time get treated like the Queen she should have been treated like all of her life, and David was that man that put a crown on her head and dared anyone to treat her any other way, other than like a queen. David is gone now, but his love will live on and on thru eternity, in her heart and all of the hearts of the people that knew and loved them and was so happy to share that love as family and friends. Love you Candy, your always have been and always will be friend. Sending hugs and much love, Judy. Will call soon.

Giving, selfless, loving husband, great dad and awesome grandfather. That’s how I would describe David. We grew up in the same neighborhood and I’ve known him all my life. Please know that your family is being carried on the wings of prayer and may God’s amazing grace comfort you and give you peace. Rest In Peace my friend.
