Doris Elaine Wilson Umphries, a devoted wife, mother, step mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 4, 2025. She was born on June 7, 1949, in Long Beach, California, to the late Harry Patrick and Doris Mae Boyd Wilson.
Born into a proud military family, Doris spent her early years traveling across the country, embracing each new place with the warmth and curiosity that would define her life. She eventually made her home in New Iberia, Louisiana, where she built a beautiful life with her beloved husband of 45 years, Donald Umphries. Together they created a strong, loving family and a lifetime of cherished memories.
Doris was known for her unwavering work ethic and her deep devotion to those she loved. She spent many years working at the office of Dr. Oscar Alvarez, where she formed lasting friendships and was admired for her kindness and dedication. Alongside her husband, she also managed a trailer park, approaching every challenge with quiet strength and compassion.
She found joy in the simple pleasures of life— playing golf, family gatherings, spirited card games, and the occasional visit to the casino for a round of blackjack. But above all, her greatest happiness came from time spent with her family, whom she treasured beyond measure.
Doris leaves us with memories of her kindness, humor, steadfastness and unmistakable class. She could comfortably switch from elegance to chatting with the doorman at Mr. Lester’s Steakhouse. She never demanded attention but always earned admiration everywhere she went.
She loved everyone around her and wasn’t ashamed to show it. These included her children, grand, and great-grandchildren on both sides of her immediate family.
We will miss that smile, laugh, and singing “Glow Worm.” Rest in peace Dottie, the memory of you with all your attributes will “Glow” in our hearts and minds forever.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are her husband, Donald Umphries; daughter, Michelle DePue Rogers(Shawn); son, Travis DePue(Shannon Parks; daughter in law, Sonya DePue; step children, Dayna Umphries, Todd Umphries and Donna Umphries; ten grandchildren, Devynn DePue; Tyler Rogers; Emma Rogers; Emily Bodin; Alysse Sedlitsky; Peyton Concienne; Lanie LeBlanc, Jordan Wimberly, Christian Umphries, Casey Umphries; Josie Singleton and Patrick “PJ” Singleton, II; twelve great grandchildren and one sister, Patricia Miller.
Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her son, Troy DePue; step-daughter, Jennifer Umphries and one sister, Harriett Irene Wilson.
