It is with heavy hearts and deep love that the LeBouef family announces the passing of Edward Joseph LeBouef, Sr., our patriarch and the rock of our family. Edward passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was 79.
Edward was born on February 20, 1947, in New Iberia to the late Charles and Louise Romero LeBouef, Sr. He was the youngest of six children and, from an early age, was instilled with the values of honest work, faith, and a deep love for his family and community.
His desire to serve led him to enlist in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He was stationed in Da Nang aboard the USS Matthews (AKA-96) and received an honorable discharge at the completion of his tour. His service reflected his strength, discipline, and commitment to his country.
Not long after his discharge, Edward pledged his heart to the love of his life, Pearl Wiltz, asking for her hand in marriage. From that day forward, Pearl would forever be his “Queen.” Together, they built a beautiful life, raising five children and sharing a love story that spanned 59 years. They made a promise to never argue and to love one another unconditionally—a vow they truly lived by each and every day.
In his earlier years, Edward worked as a chef on an oilfield platform, where he was known for preparing hearty, delicious meals that brought comfort and a taste of home to the crew. His Cajun cooking was especially cherished. He later continued his career at Norris Rader, where he worked as a diesel mechanic until his retirement.
Outside of work, Edward’s greatest joy was spending time with his family. He treasured vacations to Mississippi to visit loved ones and the simple, meaningful moments spent gathered around the table, drinking coffee and catching up on the latest gossip. Cooking remained one of his greatest passions. Not a day went by that he wasn’t at the stove preparing meals for those he loved—whether it was his flavorful stews, homemade breads, or fresh beignets. To sit at his table was truly a blessing.
Edward also had a deep love for country and western music. He faithfully followed many of the genre’s greatest artists and, alongside Pearl, attended 39 concerts featuring some of country music’s finest with some of his most memorable being Merle Haggard and Pam Tillis. One memory often shared was their trip to a George Jones concert that was unexpectedly canceled—Edward simply tore up the tickets, and they looked ahead to their next musical adventure together.
A talented guitarist and vocalist, Edward shared his gift of music generously. Alongside friends, he formed a band dedicated to bringing joy to others by performing at nursing homes and charitable events. They never accepted payment, playing purely for the love of music and the happiness it brought to others.
Above all else, Edward was a gentle giant—a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, proud patriot, and a loyal friend to many. His greatest love was his family. Though our hearts are broken, we will cherish his memory and carry on his legacy of love, kindness, and devotion. We take comfort in the hope that we will one day be reunited with him in heaven. Rest in peace, Edward. You are deeply loved and will be forever missed.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife and best friend, Pearl Wiltz LeBouef; his children, Darlene Louviere (Trent), Cheryl Hoffpauir (Harlan), Christie Besse (Lee), Eddie LeBouef, Jr. (Pam), and Linda Neuville (Ted); 19 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Charles “Jim” LeBouef (Janelle) and Mildred Romero.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Louise LeBouef; and his siblings, Dennis LeBouef, Beulah Leger, and Romeal LeBouef.
A gathering of family and friends celebrating Edward’s life will be held on Friday, April 24, 2026, at Evangeline Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. until a 1:45 p.m. dismissal, with the playing of the Navy Hymn before departing to Memorial Park Mausoleum, where he will be laid to rest.
