NEW IBERIA – A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for Mr. Edwin “Ed” Paul Blanchard, age 56, at 12:00 pm Saturday, May 4, 2019 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Fr. William C. Blanda officiating. Interment will be held privately at a later date.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Friday with a Rosary at 7:00 pm. The funeral home will reopen at 8:00 am on Saturday until service time.
A native and resident of New Iberia, Mr. Blanchard passed away at 7:14 pm on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at Ochsner Hospital.
Ed was a 1980 graduate of Catholic High School. He was a loving father, husband, brother and Goppy to all who knew him.
He was employed in the upholstery business for 40 years. He began his career working alongside his father at Blanchard’s Seat Covers and then late became the owner and operator of Blanchard’s Custom Upholstery.
He loved spending time outdoors in his garden and on his tractor. Ed was a jack of all trades, who enjoyed tinkering on any kind of tractor or machine.
Most importantly he was a selfless man who enjoyed helping other people and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Michelle Stoutes Blanchard; two daughters, Kelli Rouly and husband Rusty and Whitney Blanchard and boyfriend Brennan Smith; two grandchildren, Madilyn Rouly and Leighton Rouly; one brother, Robert J. Blanchard and wife Sheila; two sisters, Mary Joy and husband Gerald Judice and Dawn Blanchard Romero; father in law, Dallas Stoutes; brother in law, Scott Stoutes and wife Helena; nephew, Seth Stoutes; niece, Danielle Webb and boyfriend Brock Latiolais; great nephew, Gabe Latiolais and his godchild, Dustin Derouen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert “Chick” and Joy Ann Fleming Blanchard; mother in law, Patricia “Patsy” Segura Stoutes; brother in law, Lester “Red” Romero; maternal grandparents, Thomas and Aline Pennison Fleming and paternal grandparents, Edwin Paul and Louise Gonsoulin Blanchard.
Pallbearers will be Rusty Rouly, Robert Blanchard, Karl Tauzin, Pat Castille, Donald Derouen, Timmy Breaux, Scott Stoutes and Kavin Dressell.
Honorary pallbearers will be Brennan Smith, Brock Latiolais, Norris Maturin, Rodney Girouard and Dustin Derouen.
The family would like to thank Dr. Douglas Sagrera and all of the Doctors, Nurses and staff of Ochsner Medical Center.
